First Impressions - Makeup Revolution

I couldn't help myself, I had to order some of the Makeup Revolution products which have made an appearance on the Superdrug website.
The package arrived this morning, so here are my genuine first impressions of the products.

Everything here was between £1 and £4 and also on 3 for 2 so for 10 products I spent £16.

First up is the eyeshadows. I bought two single shadows in Acid (a matte neon yellow) and Frozen (a frosted silver) and an eyeshadow and eyebrow palette in Lock and Load.

First thought straight from the package was that the singles were a really good size, but the shadows in the palette were a little small. I was also super happy with the colour of Acid, it is so neon! Frozen really disappointed me, on the website it looked like a cool frosty blue, but it's a silver.

Swatch time! No base used. The first two colours are the eyebrow shades, then a few from the palette, and finally the two singles.

In all honesty, the eyeshadows really disappointed me. They weren't particularly pigmented, especially the mattes. When I swatched the sparkly purple, powder went everywhere as it was so soft. The shimmers are more hit and miss but nothing special. The neon yellow is awful, it's chalky and barely shows up.

The palette was £4 and the singles were £1 each, so although reasonably priced, I would recommend giving them a miss.

I also bought a primer and a concealer.

These are both a good size, the concealer is a similar size to the Collection Lasting Perfection Concealer and the primer is the same.

Swatched on the left is the is the primer with the Acid eyeshadow on top, and on the right is the concealer.

The primer is slightly shimmery, but blends out really nicely and sets fairly quickly. It made no difference to the pigmentation of the yellow shadow but it did make it more difficult to remove. This primer will help the staying power of your shadows rather than the colour pay off.

The concealer is thick, pigmented and blends beautifully. I'm looking forward to using this and seeing how it stays put.

The primer was £2.50 and the concealer was £1.50. Bargain!

I got three cheek products, a highlighter, a powder blush and a blush lacquer.

Vivid Baked Highlighter in Pink Lights, Blush in Wow! and Vivid Blush Lacquer in O'Boy.
Straight from the package I liked the look of all these products, i'm such a sucker for cheek products.

Swatched left to right, the highlighter, the powder blush, then lacquer and the lacquer blended out.

The highlighter is super shimmery and really pretty it gives such a lovely glow when blended out and I cant wait to rock this.

The powder blush was buttery to the touch and really nicely pigmented. It's a medium, cool-toned matte pink and I love it.

Finally the lacquer, which I was really excited about. You literally need the smallest amount of this as it's so pigmented. Both my swatches are from one little dot. This blends like a dream and almost has a cream to powder finish. There is no stickiness or wetness left on the skin, and once this sets, it ain't going nowhere! The colour is similar to the powder blush in Wow! but a little warmer.

The Highlighter cost £3.00, the Powder Blush cost £1.00 and the Lacquer cost £3.00.

Finally I bought 2 lipsticks, in colours that I don't think I will ever be able to wear.

I don't know why I chose these colours, I just got a little excited. The blue is called Immoral and the yellow is called Felony.
First impressions, the packaging is a little flimsy and the top part rattles.

Both lipsticks are really nicely pigmented, are really creamy and have a lovely vanilla scent like a MAC lipstick. I was really impressed as I expected these to be really hard and with no colour pay off.

Overall I bought a good mix of products to try out, the only things I didn't purchase was a foundation, an eye liner and a mascara.

If you are going to try anything from the brand then I would 100% recommend any of the cheek products and the lipsticks. The concealer seems nice but I need to check the staying power. The eye products are all pretty much a miss and I wouldn't recommend them.

Have you tried anything from Makeup Revolution? Would you wear either of these lipsticks?

May Favourites

These are the things I have been loving recently, and using almost every single day.

First up is my biggest impulse buy of the month, and I have used it every day since.

My Urban Decay Electric Palette *swoon*
I am obsessed with this thing, and have recently done a whole post dedicated to this beauty here.

Sticking with the makeup theme, my next favourite was a bit of a shock.

Seventeen Blemish Balm in Light. Now I am really not a fan of BB creams, they seem to be over glorified tinted moisturizers with slightly less moisture, but this baby is just brilliant. It's a super thick consistency so you only need a small amount, and it has a medium buildable coverage. Its much lighter on the skin than a foundation without compromising on the coverage. i find this applies best with my fingers.

Another makeup favourite from Urban Decay...

This is one of the new eye liners 'ink for eyes'. I really enjoy pen type liquid liners, as they are much easier to apply than the traditional type. This has such a fine nib and is super black, and once it has set, this is going nowhere. I may have lazily accidentally fell asleep in my makeup after work and a night out (Shhhh) and my liner looked exactly the same when I woke up, wing and all.

My next favourite is a super sparkly dupe for a high end blush

Sleek is fast becoming my favourite brand for blush, and this one in Rose Gold is currently top of my list. It is a dupe for Nars Orgasm, and is absolutely perfect. I have only recently begun using shimmery/glittery blush, I was always a fan of matte, but these just give my skin such a beautiful glow.

My final makeup favourite is an old rediscovered product.

Benefit Browzings has been part of my makeup collection for a few years now, but I never used it. I was a bit naive when it came to eyebrows and would totally ignore them in terms of maintenance and filling them in. I got them threaded once, it hurt, they looked shit and I went back to ignoring them. That was until i was dragged to Benefit Brow Bar in Birmingham, the girls are all super friendly and my eyebrow game was on point when I left. Now I use this to define my brows every single day and feel completely naked if i forget. I mainly use the powder side, although it is a little too light now that my hair isn't blonde.

On to some none makeup favourites.

Ever since I bought a tangle teaser, I cannot use any other hair brush, they just tug at my hair so much. This glides through knots like nobodies business, and you barely feel a thing. Since I used 'Auntie Jades Magic Brush' on my 3 year old niece, her mum has since had to buy her one, and almost everyone i know owns one. I actually enjoy brushing my hair with this.

Another hair favourite, and another rediscovery.

Lush American Cream conditioner smells amazing!! I used to use this relatively pricey conditioner a few years ago and I'm not sure why I stopped. Not only is this a wonderful conditioner with wonderful ingredients, but it has the best scent of anything ever! and the scent lasts for days, I'm constantly catching a whiff of it.

My only Body Favourite this month is hopefully going to give me the skin I've always dreamed of.

This body cream from Nip and Fab has all the ingredients to rid my body of the acne which I have spent years trying to remove/cover up. I haven't been using this all month, but I feel like the it is already making a difference, without drying out my skin. It also has a nice citrus scent which reminds me of something that i can't quite put my finger on.

My TV Favourite of this month has been Orange is the New Black. Once again I am late on the bandwagon but I watched the entire first series in 2 days, and am now eagerly awaiting season 2.
An honourable mention goes to Once Upon a Time, which is my favourite show and has been the highlight of my Monday Mornings, but sadly the season has come to an end.

My favourite Youtuber this month is Helen from MelonLady, introduced to me by my housemate. She is so fun and her videos just make me happy, as do her mulitple hair colours. I want to be her best friend.

Finally my favourite person this month is Alex from BugPin Tattoos, even thought she makes me bleed on a regular basis, she adorns my skin with beautiful images and colours.

What have been your favourites this month?

What Have I Been Up To

The last few weeks have been truly amazing, so I thought I would share these experiences with you guys.

Firstly (and most importantly) I headed to Wales with my beautiful cheer and dance team for CheerSport Wales.

We had an absolutely stressful brilliant day.

And we came home with so many trophies <3

18 trophies to be precise. Making our trophy count for the year a grand total of 23, the best the team has achieved before. So obviously I'm super proud of all of them.

However this competition marked the end of my time as President of the team :(

The day after our competition was our awards meal, where everyone eats, drinks and has a jolly good time, and the committee give out awards in different categories. I even managed to bag myself one...

Yes I did forget to bring my cheer uniform to a cheer competition, because I am a dumb ass. Other than this, I only managed to take two photos of the whole night (Oops) but thankfully plenty of other people took photos. It was such a good night, and many tears were shed.

The next day I traveled back home to see my family and friends, and I returned with this...

I am so in love with this tattoo, or at least I will be once it has healed and isn't in that annoying itchy gross stage. Anyone in the Stoke area should definitely check out BugPin tattoos, they are awesome.

Finally, I changed my hair again, slightly more drastic than last time...

I couldn't get a decent picture of the colour, but it's super bright purple and I love it so much.

What have you been up to lately? Let me know if you would like to see a tattoo post or a cheer bow collection :)

The Four or More Tag

My First Tag Post :) It's pretty self-explanatory, here are all the products that I have four or more off.

I'm actually quite surprised that there is only seven different things that I have four or more of, other than Urban Decay Palettes (which I will do a separate post on soon), which I chose not to include.

Barry M Nail Paints in varying colours and finishes. For full list see here.

Revlon Parfumerie Nail Enamel in Fresh Linen, Spun Sugar, Wintermint, Lime Basil, Italian Leather and Chocolate Truffle.

Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-On liners in Desperation, Deviant, LSD, Perversion, Whiskey, Rockstar, Junkie and Zero.

Urban Decay Super-Saturated Lip Colour in Theodora (LE), Crush, Punch-drunk and Glinda (LE).

Lush Lip Scrubs in Lip Dip (LE), Popcorn, Santa (LE), Pow Wow (LE) and Bubblegum.

Revlon Lip Butter in Candy Apple, Lollipop, Wild Watermelon, Cupcake and Creme Brulee.

Finally a beautiful collection of Barry M Dazzle Dusts, sadly none of which have names and the numbers have rubbed off.

I tag anyone who reads this post to either make their own post or let me know in the comments what they have four or more of.

My Emergency Kit

Yes I have an emergency kit, and yes I take it with me wherever I go, except on nights out when I just take the absolute essentials from the kit with me.

In no particular order, this kit contains:

  • Tissues
  • Plasters
  • Deep Heat Cream
  • Bepanthen (I have a lot of tattoos)
  • Wound Dressing
  • Bandage
  • Razor
  • Mini Tweezers
  • Chewable toothbrush
  • Eye Drops
  • Hand Sanitizer
  • Mouth Gel (cheap bonjela)
  • Split End Treatment
  • Microporus Tape
  • Wound Cleansing Wipe
  • Burn Gel
  • Paracetamol
  • Ibuprofen
  • Nurofen Period Pain Tablets
  • Tampons
  • Breath Spray
  • Hand Cream
  • Hair Bobbles
  • and finally a Nail File

I am aware that this seems excessive, and that there are things in this kit which you may think seem ridiculous, but other than the split end treatment (which I sort of didn't have a more appropriate place for) I know that each of these things is useful in my life and is handy to keep nearby.

Is there anything that you keep at hand just incase?

Everybody knows, Badgers love...?

Aniseed apparently.

I made multiple gifs to use on this post, but couldn't figure out how to correctly upload them (I know I suck) so pictures it is.

This is/was the May Day bath bomb, which is limited edition to Lush and all proceeds go to anti-badger cull charities.

In the bag, this had a relatively strong fennel scent, so much so that I used it first just so the scent wasn't lingering around my room for too long. Aniseed can be an overpowering and obtrusive scent.

As you might be able to tell from the pictures, the May Day bath bomb doesn't really alter the colour of the water, it appears slightly milky coloured, but nothing too noticeable. As for the scent it was much less overpowering when dissolved in a bath full of water, the scent was more reminiscent of a few aniseed balls in the bottom of a bag, or the scent of someone who had recently eaten one. The scent was pleasant enough, but isn't something I plan on bathing in again, and it does linger on the skin and in the bathroom.

Overall, I liked this bath bomb, it was cute with the badger on it and I like that the proceeds go to a good cause. It just isn't as fun as I would have liked, I'm still a child at heart, and like my bath bombs to whizz and pop and throw colours and glitter around my bath tub.

What is your favourite Bath Bomb?

How I Use Coconut Oil

Magic Oil?

Having heard a few people talking about coconut oil, I decided that it was time I jumped on the inevitable bandwagon.

The Coconut Oil I have is Superdrugs own fragranced version, which was about two or three pounds (Superdrug website is currently down)

Coconut Oil is solid at room  temperature, and so can look a little scary, however it melts at body temperature, and becomes an oil.

Although I really enjoy using this coconut oil, next time I will buy organic oil which can be used for cooking as well as beauty purposes and will definitely be fragrance free.

What I use Coconut Oil for:

  • To remove my makeup - I smear this all over my face then remove with a cotton pad. Goodbye waterproof mascara and stubborn lash glue
  • To moisturise my face - I use this as an intensive moisturiser about once a week before bed
  • To make my feet super soft - I cover my feet in the oil, put on some socks and sleep my feet soft
  • To dry shave your legs when you're in a rush, it leaves them super soft too

It can also be used as a leave in conditioner or a overnight hair mask, however I'm sort of scared to cover my hair in oil :/ we shall see

I have also heard that it can increase lash growth, which I am anxious to try, but maybe I need to wait until I get a fragrance free organic version.

Have you ever used coconut oil?
